Past tense (irregular) detective game

students walk around the room and ask each other about who did what irregular verb

  • New Crown Grade 1 - Lesson 9
  • Sunshine Grade 2 - Program 1-2

Materials Needed

  • worksheet (missing the 5 students)
  • cards (missing, just copy the table of activities from the worksheet and put names on it.)

Note: This is best suited as a first or second lesson on irregular past tense verbs since it doesn't require that the students actually conjugate the past tense, only that they read it.

Give each student a copy of the worksheet and one card.

Explain that some students have just come back from vacation, and they did different things. One student didn't do anything at all.

Students (the real ones) should walk around the room and ask each other who did which activity (e.g. "Who saw avatar?", "who went to Odaiba?") If the student who is asked has that card, or if he has already learned the answer from someone else he answers, otherwise he just says "sorry, I don't know."

After asking several questions the students should discover that "Jane" did not go anywhere. Reveal this as the answer at the end of the activity.
